Vendor Negotiations Delay School Bus Services for STX Students

School bus service for some St. Croix public school students will not resume until Sept. 13, one week after classes start.

ST. CROIX, USVI — St. Croix public students in grades PreK-3rd and CTE students enrolled in specific career pathways will not have access to school bus services September 13, despite returning to classes on Sept. 7, according to the V.I. Department of Education. The late start is the result of "an unforeseen delay during final negotiations with the school-bus vendor," said a statement released by the DOE.

“We have been working diligently with our school-bus vendors and the various negotiation teams and are pleased to be able to provide school-bus service to St. Croix families on September 13,” said St. Croix District Superintendent Carlos McGregor.

Without access to bus services, the DOE is asking parents of affected students to transport their children to and from campuses when schools open for in-person learning on Sept. 7. The DOE also clarified that Special Education self-contained students on St. Croix attending in-person classes are not affected and will receive school bus transportation beginning Sept. 7.
