U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The wait for the car barges is about to get ugly. The V.I. Port Authority announced on Tuesday that travelers should expect delays at the car ferry docks on St. John and St. Thomas over the next week.

VIPA was advised today that the Todd G car ferry, “The Big Red Barge,” is expected to be on dry dock for a week. And with the Todd G offline, only two barges are servicing the Enighed Pond/Red Hook route, said VIPA St. Thomas/St. John Marine Manager Matthew Berry.

VIPA also issued a plea for travelers to cooperate with the barge ramp employees and security staff at the docks.
