🌱 VIPD Locate Missing STT Woman and Daughter + Today's Events

The quickest way to get caught up on the headlines, upcoming events, and everything else happening in the USVI .

Good morning and let's get this Wednesday started. Here are the stories I'm following:

  • Stephanie Barnes' attorney is breaking ties with his client because, as he told the court, she hasn't paid him. Barnes is currently at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. She is scheduled to be sentenced on May 19, via the Daily News.
  • DPNR is serious about madras. The official Virgin Islands Madras fabric, to be specific. D.P.N.R. Commissioner Jean-Pierre Oriol announced that the design is "official property of the government of the Virgin Islands" and vowed to pursue legal action against anyone caught using the official V.I, Madras commercially without a license. Licenses are provided by the V.I. Council of the Arts. Learn more about the history of the official madras design and get the full story in the VI Consortium.
  • Tina Comissiong has been named the permanent CEO of Schneider Regional Medical Center. "This is something I have worked toward in my professional and educational career since I first started as part of the SRMC team," Comissiong told The Source.
  • The V.I.P.D. have located a woman and her daughter after listing them as "missing persons" and asking the public for assistance finding them. VIPD director of communications Glen Dratte announced that the woman, Leigh Ann Sharpe, and her 3-year-old daughter Daisy Sharpe, were found at a playground near Cyril E. King Airport and appear in good health, via the VI Consortium.
  • It has been a year since Sarm Heslop, 42, went missing from her boyfriend's catamaran, Siren Song. Now, her parents are traveling to the USVI seeking answers. Read more in The Independent.
