ICE Raid Seizes 650 People In 4-Day Operation; Most Not Convicted Of Crimes

The raid targeted undocumented immigrants from South America — mostly unaccompanied minors and families.

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is processing 650 people apprehended in a four-day nationwide raid known as Operation Border Guardian/Border Resolve, an effort to sweep up families and unaccompanied minors who entered the country illegally from Central America.

About 193 of the people detained were the focus of the raid, while the other 457 were rounded up as a consequence of the operation. (For more information on this and other political stories, subscribe to the White House Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

“Illegally entering the United States as a family unit or UAC does not protect individuals from being subject to the immigration laws of this country,” said ICE Acting Director Thomas Homan. “I urge anyone considering making the dangerous and unlawful journey to the United States: Please do not take this risk. Ultimately, if you have no basis to remain in the United States, you will be identified, apprehended and returned to your home country.”
