Sens. John McCain, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins were pivotal in blocking the bill.

Earlier in the day, he had been hopeful for the bill's success, writing: "Go Republican Senators, Go! Get there after waiting for 7 years. Give America great healthcare!"
Sens. John McCain of Arizona, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine were the only Republicans to vote against the bill, leaving the president's party just one vote short to secure passage.
