Watch Replay: President Donald Trump Delivers Liberty University Commencement Address

President Trump delivered the address at the Liberty University Commencement Ceremony on Saturday May 13.

LYNCHBURG, VA — President Donald Trump delivered the commencement address at Liberty University, the non-profit Christian University in Virginia, on Saturday. The president of the university, Jerry Falwell Jr., a prominent evangelical Christian leader, endorsed Trump's bid for the presidency early on in the race.

In endorsing Trump, Falwell Jr. wrote in an op-ed in the Washington Post explaining his decision. He wrote that just like when he, along with his father, struggled to save Liberty University when it was failing financially, the two hired the best lawyers and accountants regardless of faith and he felt that America should do the same, bringing on an experienced businessman.

Earlier this year, Falwell Jr. told reporters that Trump had tapped him to lead a panel on reform of higher education regulations.

At the commencement ceremony, Trump spoke at length to the new graduates about doing what is right, no matter what others around you may say. He also spoke about the importance of God but largely avoided any talk of politics, save to say that he had seen how the system in Washington D.C. was broken.

The address at Liberty comes the same week when Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. The White House repeatedly changed its story about what led to Comey's firing, saying at first the decision was made as a result of the recommendation of the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. However, media reports began to emerge that painted a different narrative, and Trump himself admitted to NBC News' Lester Holt in an interview that he was going to fire Comey regardless of the recommendations from the Department of Justice.

Democrats and even some Republicans have renewed calls for an independent prosecutor to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 election, which Comey had confirmed during a Congressional testimony, included investigating possible collusion between members of the Trump campaign and Russia. Since the firing, Trump has drawn considerably more attention to the Russia probe going to lengths to state there was no collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, although the counter-intelligence investigation headed by the FBI is still underway.
