Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service and Unity Walk
Join us on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. for our annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service and Unity Walk. This year’s theme, “Together We Can Make a Change,” calls community members of all faiths and backgrounds to unite in purpose, service, and hope. The morning will begin with an inspiring worship service in the sanctuary, featuring guest speaker Rev. Olu Brown, a nationally respected pastor, author, and leader known for his dynamic messages of faith and transformation.
Following the service, we will take part in the annual Unity Walk from the church to Brooks Street Park, symbolizing solidarity and shared commitment to Dr. King’s vision of justice and love in action. A community reception will follow at First Baptist Church.
We are also excited to partner with Beauty for Ashes for our Community Service Project, supporting our transient and unhoused neighbors. A receiving table will be set up to collect new or gently used blankets or sleeping bags. Because portability is essential, please refrain from donating bedroom comforters or bulky bedding.
In Romans 12:2 (NIV), the Apostle Paul reminds us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” This gathering reminds us that transformation begins when we choose to walk and work together as one community.
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service and Unity Walk is free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. St. James Community Church welcomes everyone, regardless of faith tradition, to stand together as living examples of Dr. King’s call to unity and change.
