Gallery North is pleased to present Curious Phenomena: Recent Works by Melinda Hackett, on view from January 8 to February 15, 2026. An opening reception will be held Thursday, January 8th from 6 pm to 8 pm.Curious Phenomena presents small- and large-scale paintings by Melinda Hackett. Playful clusters of biomorphic shapes dance, tumble, float and perform amid vibrant environments that condense macro and micro worlds. While Hackett uses nature as a reference, each piece is a poetic invention of the artist’s imagination. The colorful stages on which these mysterious - yet familiar - forms are placed create visual flavors that influence the viewers’ mood and feelings, transforming the overall experience. Each piece engages our curiosity and invites us to contemplate our own perspective, even while we explore the relationships between each form. Hackett’s practice has been influenced by botany, mid-century modern pattern design, as well as the artwork of Arthur Dove, Joan Miró, and Hilma af Klint.
Melinda Hackett is a New York and Southampton based painter and printmaker. She received her MFA from the Parsons School of Design, The New School. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and is in many public and private collections including the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton. She divides her time between the East End and Manhattan.
This exhibition is generously sponsored by the Field Family, Jefferson’s Ferry, Pet ER 24/7, Printers 3 and Suffolk County’s Department of Economic Development and Planning. The exhibition, reception, and ArTalk will be free and open to the public.

Curious Phenomena: Recent Works by Melinda Hackett Opening Reception 

This 8-week clay workshop marks Gallery North’s exciting introduction into ceramics as a studio offering! Taught by Long Island ceramic artist Jessamyn Go, this course is designed for adults and advanced teens (ages 13+) who are curious about clay or serious about developing their artistic skills.

Each two-hour session includes live demonstrations and guided studio time. Over the 8 weeks, students will complete four elevated ceramic projects—each completed over two weeks—with a focus on both technique and personal expression. Sample projects include:
<ul><li>Project 1- Lidded Pinch Pot;&nbsp;Explore advanced pinch pot construction with lid fitting. (1/18 &amp; 1/25)</li><li>Project 2-Coiled Orchid Planter;&nbsp;Build a functional planter using coiling methods. (2/1 &amp; 2/8)</li><li>Project 3- Slab Block Vase;&nbsp;Design and construct an elegant block-style vase from custom templates. (3/1 &amp; 3/8)</li><li>Project 4- Abstract Cylindrical Lighting Sculpture;&nbsp;Create a sculptural lantern with cutouts and texture. (3/15 &amp; 3/22)</li></ul>
Can't make it to all&nbsp; eight classes? No worries! You can register for just one or more of the projects!&nbsp;
All materials, tools, and kiln firings are included in the fee, making this an accessible way to explore clay without hidden costs. Please note: due to the small size of our kiln, there will be size limitations on completed works to ensure thoughtful use of studio resources.
Whether you’re new to ceramics or looking to deepen your practice, this workshop offers a fun, creative, and skill-building introduction to the world of clay.

Learn to silkscreen your own images on t-shirts, totes and more!
Join printmaker Larissa Grass as she shares her passion &amp; knowledge of one of the most accessible printing techniques around! Students will learn to screen print from start to finish using silk, embroidery hoops &amp; other simple supplies. Leave with the know how to print at home. Students in this class will be ready to take advanced silkscreen with Larissa in the future.&nbsp;
One t-shirt or tote(per student) will be provided but feel free to bring in extra shirts, totes, aprons, pillow cases or fabrics to print on!h.
This workshop includes all materials. Student will take home their own silkscreen to print with in the future.&nbsp;

If you ever wondered, dreamed or wanted to experiment with vitreous enamels (fine&nbsp;powered glass) and haven’t had the opportunity, this class is for you. You will learn&nbsp;how to clean and prepare your copper blanks to allow the enamel to adhere to the&nbsp;copper. You will learn how to sift the enamel on your metal blank. We will trouble&nbsp;shoot along the way as you learn how to use rubber stamps to embellish and pattern&nbsp;your copper blanks. Come an explore the many possibilities this art form can create&nbsp;for you. Warning it can be addicting.
 Jo Wadler was a featured enamel artist n the September/October 2016 issue of&nbsp;Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist. She introduced an innovative technique of&nbsp;combing enameling and rubber stamping. With over 20 years of enameling&nbsp;experience, Jo emphasizes the creative freedom that her method offers, allowing&nbsp;artists to explore different textures as well as using bought and creating your own&nbsp;stamps to use in a unique way.

They will collaborate on design ideas and explore techniques. Create eggs for friends or to keep as personal treasures. Engraving on Tetra Pak®&nbsp;has the same requirements as traditional drypoint engraving, except that the material engraved on is recycled, accessible to everyone and practically ready for use, unlike&nbsp;other&nbsp;plates, which require a relatively long preparation phase. This gain in time and money will allow you to work freely and spontaneously, without worrying about “ruining a plate”.
Students will use the Studio's etching press to create a small series of prints.&nbsp;
No&nbsp;prior knowledge needed. Artists of all levels welcome.&nbsp;
