Bio : Jennifer Mohan started her work with Patch by establishing the Upper Southampton Patch site back in 2010. While she still serves as the editor for Upper Southampton Patch, Jennifer is also the Community Manager for the multiple sites across the greater Bucks County region.
When asked about her career, Jennifer likes to joke that she was a multimedia journalist before it was in fashion. As an undergraduate at Temple University, she anchored the morning drive newscasts on WRTI-FM. After obtaining her degree in Journalism from Temple, she joined the news team at NBC affiliate KUMV-TV as an anchor and reporter. She then returned to the Philadelphia-area and began a career in print, working for several local publications including: The Times Herald, The Suburban and Wayne Times, Souderton Independent and Perkasie News Herald. In working at Patch, Jennifer now feels she has landed at the medium where she belongs, utilizing her full repertoire of skills to create compelling and meaningful content on the web.
A little known fact: Jennifer is a certified teacher who holds a master’s degree in education. She briefly worked for the School District of Philadelphia as well as for WHYY’s Learning Lab, teaching documentary film and newsgathering skills. She says one of the best things about her present position, as Community Manager, is that every day she gets to teach people all of the wonderful things they can do with Patch.
Jennifer is married to her biggest fan, who coincidentally was raised in Upper Southampton Township. She loves surprising him with interesting factoids about his hometown on a near-daily basis. Together they have two beautiful daughters, who bring them much joy and laughter.
When she has the opportunity, Jennifer loves to travel. She also likes to read, to sew, to create new things and to do anything and everything with her family. Jennifer loves the outdoors, and chances are if she isn’t behind her computer in the corner of the local coffee shop you’ll find her kayaking or hiking in the park.
Your Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.
Politics:
I'm registered for a political party, but only because I think it is important to vote in all elections – even the primaries. I vote for a person, not a party.
Religion:
I consider myself spiritual but not necessarily religious. I don't have anything against organized religion, I just have yet to find the one that suits me. Lately, I have been looking.
Local Hot-Button Issues:
There sure is a lot of developing going on in what is an already densely populated township. I hope Upper Southampton can find ways to begin implementing its updated comprehensive plan, as we could all benefit from a little more 'green' living.
My husband has been trying for years to sell me on the idea that Upper Southampton has a theme song. If there is any truth to this, please find me and sing me a verse. I would love to hear it.
