January 16. 2026, 5-8pm, the Morean Arts Center highlights the National Association of Women Artists, SARTQ Artist Collective, and Rebecca Sexton Larson.
A Journey Through My Imagination is a juried exhibition of artwork by members of The National Association of Women Artists (NAWAFL). Featuring painting, photography, ceramics, glass, and more, this show demonstrates the depth and breadth of work being made by participants in one of the oldest art organizations in the US. NAWAFL, founded in 1889, is the oldest professional women’s fine arts organization in the United States, serving professional women artists of all backgrounds and traditions. It encourages contemporary and emerging artists while continuing to honor the long and important contribution of women to the history of American culture and art.
The Morean and SARTQ Artist Collective collaborate to present Day Dreams, a captivating group exhibition delving into the enigmatic and surreal world of dreams. This exhibition transports viewers to the subconscious, inviting them to explore the complexities, contradictions, and hidden meanings that reside within our dreams. Through a diverse range of artistic mediums—from painting and sculpture to mixed media, photography, and installation—Day Dreams aims to evoke an immersive and thought-provoking experience where reality and imagination intertwine.
Where Leaves Remember by Rebecca Sexton Larson displays an ongoing body of work presented as a sketchbook exploring the relationship between nature, memory, and transformation. Each page functions as both surface and site—a place where recollection accumulates, shifts, and reconfigures over time. Rooted in the premise that leaves, like people, retain evidence of what has passed, the project explores how memory operates as a layered and evolving process. Through drawings, photographs, and text fragments, the work considers how marks and materials record the interplay between permanence and loss. Where Leaves Remember examines how natural cycles of decay and renewal parallel the ways in which human memory is continually rehabilitating through time and experience.
"Coming off the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we're excited to host these exhibitions that encourage calmness, contemplation and meditation,” said Amanda Cooper, Chief Curator at the Morean Arts Center. “Sexton-Larson's work asks that we slow down and think about the connection between memory and nature, between loss and the passage of time. Day Dreams and A Journey through My Imagination are a soothing feast for the eyes with playful imagery and cotton candy color palettes.”

Opening Reception for Three New Art Exhibitions at the Morean

Together we will explore forms that lend themselves to making a BIG presence.
I love this workshop and have many previous students who now have big pots in their body of work. 
This workshop is challenging, fun and lively. You will be taking risks and loving it!
We will cover:
<ul><li>Throwing with excellence</li><li>Throwing in sections</li><li>Throwing tall, throwing wide</li><li>Creating forms to celebrate the join and forms with lines of integrity that completely loose the join</li><li>Adding coils on the wheel to embellish your pots</li><li>Explore textured slabs on thrown pieces</li><li>Multiple approaches to joins</li><li>Adding attachments</li><li>Altering shapes and darting</li><li>Applying slip for texture and movement</li></ul>
We will discuss form, line, balance, proportion and originality as we design and create Bigger pots. This throwing experience is designed for the potter that wants to push into new territory and expand their skill set. By the end of the week you will be an even better and a more passionate potter.This class is designed for students growing in confidence working with a desire to work on larger pots and/or more complex forms. It is designed to develop a deeper intentionality in your work.
EXISTING SKILLS SET RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS: In order to be successful in this class, it is recommended that students are comfortable making forms with 3-4 lbs of clay.

<h3>Workshop Logistics:</h3>
<ul><li>Demonstrations will begin every day at 9 am. Sarah will work with students individually until 3 pm. There will be additional open studio hours TBD.</li><li>Students will purchase clay directly from The Morean Center for Clay the week of the workshop. Both cone 6 and cone 10 options will be available. </li><li>Students have the option to transport their greenware pieces home to be fired in their own studio. If you are flying in I recommend you not try to keep the work and just make more when you return home with your amazing new skills.</li><li>Several weeks before the workshop you will receive the details of what to expect, what to bring, and a materials list.</li></ul>

Join us at the Morean Center for Clay for an exciting evening of Pottery, Presentations, and a Decadent Dinner!

Each attendee will receive a unique ceramic plate made here at the Morean Center for Clay by an artist in resident. You will get the chance to meet this year’s artists and learn their processes throughout the evening as you enjoy a scrumptious plate of pasta. 
Raffles and a silent auction of artworks will be available to enter throughout the evening for a chance to win additional artwork!
Proceeds from the evening will go towards sending our artists in residence to the annual ceramics conference, NCECA.

The moments that hold the fragile interval after things fall apart. The spaces of transition are places of pause, reflection and perception that reveal the feeling and sense of connection and separation.&nbsp;
The in-betweenness of things.
I use clay as a material to record the quiet moments and lived experience, moments of stillness, the space between and the connections that bridge them together. These records and relationships explore issues of uncertainty loss, memory and place. I am drawn to the presence of what once was there, the fragility of a moment and what we choose to hold onto and release.”

Artist Bio:
Jennifer Schumacher Waller lives and works in New Orleans, Louisiana. Jennifer received her BFA from Louisiana State University where she studied ceramics and photography. In 2023, Jennifer went on to receive a Post-Baccalaureate in Ceramics at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Her practice explores moments that lie in-between fixed states—those liminal places where meaning wavers, certainty dissolves and that hold the fragile interval after things fall apart. Jennifer held residency at the International Artist Residency Exchange in Saint-Raphael, France and the Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana. She has shown at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as Berlin, Germany, Rhode Island, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri, Oregon and around Louisiana.
