A Grammy and Oscar-winning artist, Fischer has spent more than four decades shaping the sound of popular music. Yet much of her career was spent as the consummate collaborator, lending her extraordinary voice to some of the world’s greatest performers. ABOUT THE LEONKORO QUARTET
Founded in Berlin in 2019, the Leonkoro Quartet has rapidly emerged as one of the most compelling ensembles of its generation. Comprising brothers Jonathan and Lukas Schwarz (violin and cello), Amelie Wallner (second violin), and Mayu Konoe (viola), the ensemble takes its name from Leonkoro—Esperanto for “lionheart”—a nod to Astrid Lindgren’s tale of brotherhood, courage, and emotional depth, themes that resonate deeply in the string quartet repertoire.
The quartet achieved international prominence in 2022 with a sweep of major competitions: First Prize and nine special awards at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, First Prize plus both Audience and Young Audience Prizes at the Concours de Bordeaux, and the Jürgen Ponto Foundation Music Prize. They were named recipients of the MERITO String Quartet Award, selected after a year of discreet evaluation by renowned musicians, and joined the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists program (2022–2024).
Their success continued into 2024, receiving the Young Talent Award from the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and becoming Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award winners—further affirming their international standing. That same year, they launched a long-term recording partnership with Alpha Classics, following the acclaimed 2023 release of their debut album on Mirare, featuring quartets by Ravel and Schumann, honored with the Choc de Classica de l’année.
The ensemble has studied under Heime Müller and Günter Pichler, with mentorship from Alfred Brendel and members of the Artemis Quartet. Upcoming engagements include debuts at the Salzburg Festival, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Tonhalle Zurich, Bozar Brussels, and a major North American tour with performances in New York, Boston, Chicago, Montreal, Houston, and San Francisco.

Jonathan Schwarz plays a violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (1759/60) on generous loan through a trust. Amelie Wallner plays on a fine Giovanni Battista Guardagnini, generously loaned by the Beare’s International Violin Society. Mayu Konoe plays a viola by Lorenzo Storioni, kindly provided by a private sponsor. Lukas Schwarz plays a cello by Carlo Tononi, Venice (c. 1720) loaned by the Beare’s International Violin Society.

In 2024, Jay Beckenstein and band started its observation of the 50th anniversary of the band. What started as a diversion, something that was just for fun (and twenty-five cents at the door) continues its evolution into 2025. It began inauspiciously when Beckenstein and a few musician friends in Buffalo NY organized a get together on their shared night off from working in bands that actually made money. It was a simple, humble idea with a name that was likewise simple and humble, “Tuesday Night – Jazz Jam”. Fast forward 50 years and this jazz super group has released over 30 albums, garnering gold and platinum along the way. They’ve played over 10,000 concerts on six continents. Spyro Gyra has maintained its standards of excellence and that has sustained them on the “A list” of live attractions in jazz for 50 years.

It’s a time that Beckenstein remembers fondly. He describes the beginning as “that period of time when I was in my 20s, when it was all raw and there were no expectations. It was all about having a good time and playing hard. It was a golden time.”
It’s a story that is familiar to fans of Spyro Gyra the world around. It began inauspiciously in 1974 when Jay Beckenstein and a few musician friends in Buffalo NY organized a get together on their shared night off from working in bands that actually made money. It was a simple, humble idea with a name that was likewise simple and humble, “Tuesday Night – Jazz Jam”. Every week a core group, Beckenstein and co-founder Jeremy Wall along with Jim Kurzdorfer and Tom Walsh, the rhythm section from the Buffalo Jazz Ensemble who Beckenstein and Wall had been playing with, would gather to jam. They were joined by various players from around town, including long time Spyro Gyra keyboardist Tom Schuman, who just wanted to have some fun playing jazz and its relatively new cousin, jazz fusion.

Trio Fadolín introduces audiences to the fadolín—a six-string bowed instrument that extends the range of the violin to cover the viola register, as well as most of the cello. This innovative trio—composed of violinist Sabina Torosjan, cellist Valeriya Sholokhova, and Ljova Zhurbin, performing on the fadolín—blends traditional string textures with the new tonal possibilities offered by the instrument. Their performances feature both original compositions and fresh interpretations of classical works, offering a reimagined soundscape that honors the past while pushing the boundaries of the chamber music form.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Trio Fadolín is a new ensemble with a unique sonority—featuring Sabina Torosjan on violin, Valeriya Sholokhova on cello, and Ljova, performing on the fadolín–a new instrument that encompasses the range of the violin, viola, and most of the cello, finding its footing in an acoustic chamber music setting for the first time.
In its inaugural season, Trio Fadolín has been presented by Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, the brand new Perelman Performing Arts Center (PACNYC), and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The trio formed during the COVID-19 pandemic — its first performances were in the summer of 2021 on a makeshift stage at the Javits Convention Center mass vaccination site, operated by the US Army and sponsored by Sing for Hope. As its opportunities to play together grew, the trio’s repertoire evolved steadily — it now includes works by Ukrainian composers Vasyl Barvinsky, Mykola Kolessa, and Miroslav Skoryk, Spanish-American composer Andrea Casarrubios, Estonian-American composer Lembit Beecher, folk music from Armenia, Denmark, Romania, Sweden and Uzbekistan, in addition to original works by its fadolínist, Ljova. All three members are graduates of The Juilliard School.
Trio Fadolín is the recipient of the Ensemble Forward grant from Chamber Music America and the New York Community Trust, as part of which it will spend some time this year working on a new project with the Syrian clarinettist and composer Kinan Azmeh. The trio is also a recipient of a grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) to present three concerts in its 2024–2025 season. It was the inaugural ensemble-in-residence at Interlochen Public Radio, where it recorded material for its forthcoming debut album. The trio has also completed its first East Coast tour with stops in Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York.
Trio Fadolín’s focus is multifaceted — on the one hand, it is exploring the unique sonority of the acoustic fadolín (six-string violin, with low C and F strings) within a trio context, using it — for the first time in history — as an integral instrument in an acoustic chamber music setting.
On the other hand, the trio shares a deep personal connection — all three members grew up in the former Soviet Union and arrived in New York as teens. Sabina was born in Estonia of Armenian-Jewish heritage; Valeriya was born in Ukraine of Ukrainian, Jewish, and Russian heritage; Ljova was born in Moscow, Russia, of Ukrainian-Jewish, German-Jewish, Polish, and Romanian heritage. The ensemble shares a common bond of immigration, Eastern European literature, humor, animation, and music.

Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) was founded in 2003 by Hubie Jones, a civic leader who has worked for six decades to address the social problems facing Boston’s underserved children and communities. Named Boston’s “Ambassadors of Harmony” by The Boston Globe, BCC harnesses the power of music to connect Boston’s diverse communities, cultivate empathy, and inspire social inquiry. BCC after-school choral programs include 10 choirs with singers from 110 different zip codes in and around Boston. BCC is also proud to partner with schools to provide in-school choral education in Mattapan, Roxbury, South Boston, East Boston, Allston and the city of Chelsea. Miranda is considered by critics, audiences, and her fellow musicians to be a moving vocalist and nuance performer, and her concerts center on interpretations of the great songwriters of our day. Her versatility with the works of such luminaries as Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Richard Thompson have become the hallmark of her performances, as well as her haunting rendition of Edith Piaf's La Vie en Rose.
Miranda has recorded three albums, including the award-winning lullaby collection All the Pretty Little Horses, and the live double CD Embrace: Live in Rockport, and most recently a compilation of live cuts of audience favorites. She and her husband have two adult children and live in nearby Ipswich, MA where they own and operate Russell Orchards, a 120-acre fruit farm with bakery, winery, and busy retail store.

Following up the international success of ‘Rhumba Country’, Pokey LaFarge is set to embark on a SOLO tour this January through March, playing an intimate set to theaters and jazz clubs throughout California and the Northeast. He’ll be reimagining songs from his nine-album catalog as well as new interpretations of Gospel, Rock &amp; Roll, and Country classics.
