Biography
I am a trained print journalist with several years experience. I graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 2002, with a degree emphasis in news-editorial and a minor in political science.
I started my career working for Gannett at The Baxter Bulletin in Mountain Home, Ark. While there, I won several awards for my work including the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association Newspapers in Education award for a story on an 84-year-old man learning to read. That story also won a second place in Best of Gannett.
I also won several APME awards for my beat and political writing.
After three years, I decided to move closer to my hometown of St. Louis. I accepted a job as the St. Clair Editor for the Washington Missourian newspaper in Franklin County.
While there, I covered the "Baby Abby/Shannon Torrez" kidnapping story from start to sentencing. In the course of reporting the story, I appeared on a KMOX news broadcast, On The Record with Greta Van Susteren and participated in an episode of the Oxygen Network's "Snapped."
After three-plus years at The Missourian, I made the decision to continue my education.
I took a year off work and completed my master's degree in international relations. The program, Webster University's Global MAIR, took me to London, UK; Leiden, The Netherlands; Vienna, Austria; Geneva, Switzerland; and Bangkok, Thailand.
Having completed my degree, I am happy to be back home and back in journalism.
I started as the Wentzville Patch editor in 2010 and moved to University City Patch in January 2012. I also cover Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch.
