through in honeyed tones on Irish, Scottish, British, and American 
styled vocals. She sings in the Irish music tradition of Sean-Nós, or 
“old style” as well as accompanied. Amelia also plays bodhran and a 
small 22 string Welsh lap harp, and has toured internationally to global
 acclaim.
Amelia sings with lilting 
graces and sublety, weaving a mysterious old magic that takes the 
listener out of time and place. For this concert, she'll be joined by members of The Flight Crew:&nbsp;Christa Burch (sings harmony vocals and plays bodhran), Jimmy Murphy (sings harmony vocals and plays guitar), and Skyler Blakeslee (sings harmony vocals and plays flute, whistles, harmonica, and small pipes).The concert will be Jan 10 at&nbsp;7:30 PM at Knox Presbyterian Church. As both singer and songwriter, Jim Malcolm is one of the most distinctive voices in Scottish music, “one of the finest singing voices in Scotland in any style”. He was lead singer of the phenomenal Scottish band Old Blind Dogs for seven years, touring extensively throughout Europe and North America and playing at many of the biggest folk festivals. In 2004, Jim was songwriter of the year in the Scots Trad Music Awards, and has been nominated three times for Scots Singer of the Year. He has a huge repertoire of songs from the Scottish tradition and is a noted interpreter of Burns. These old songs are complemented by his own original and award-­‐winning songs, which are at once completely modern and accessible, yet an authentic addition to the cannon of Scottish music.Jim plays expressive guitar and simultaneously plays tunes on harmonicas to a standard you’ll seldom hear elsewhere. “Given the right song, he’ll melt you in your seat,” as one critic wrote. Named for an ancient Celtic harvest festival in honour of the Irish god Lugh, Lúnasa was formed in 1997 from members of some of the greatest Irish groups of the previous decade, an early review from Folk Roots magazine describing the band as an “Irish music dream team”. From the start, the band’s complex arrangements and unique sound reshaped the boundaries of traditional music and energized audiences the world over. Critical acclaim followed. The Irish Echo described the band as the “the hottest Irish acoustic band on the planet”; MOJO magazine named the band “the new gods of Irish music,” adding that “nobody since the Bothies has wielded such a thrilling rhythmic underlay.” Billboard raved that “anybody who listens can’t help but find them contagious.”Having sold over a quarter of a million records and performed over 2,500 shows across 36 countries, Lúnasa has won multiple awards and become one of the most influential bands in the history of traditional music.
Lúnasa’s current lineup includes Trevor Hutchinson, bassist with The Waterboys; uilleann piper Cillian Vallely, who toured with Riverdance and recorded with Bruce Springsteen; Kevin Crawford, widely considered one of Ireland’s greatest flute players; award winning fiddler Colin Farrell and guitarist Ed Boyd, known on the UK folk circuit for his work with bands such as Flook, Kate Rusby, and Cara Dillon.
We’ll be at a new venue – Westminster Presbyterian Church on N. Lake Ave. Tickets are on sale now. Prices (with fee) are $44.52 for adults and $12.51 for Caltech students and youth through high school.
