Birthday: March 27, 1983
Bio: Robert Edward Healy, III, a native of Pittsburgh's South Hills area, graduated from Duquesne University in both 2006 (master's) and 2005 (bachelor's). Before returning to Pittsburgh and becoming the editor of the Baldwin-Whitehall Patch in December 2010 (and the UpperSt.Clair Patch, as well, in May 2013), Robert worked out of the area for the previous three years in the public-relations industry, most recently as Director of Athletics Communications at Susquehanna University.
Robert has worked for a variety of companies as a freelance writer, including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Sports Report and The Daily Item of Sunbury, PA. He has also been a public-relations assistant for the Pittsburgh Steelers and a marketing specialist for the Court Time Sports Center of Elizabeth, PA. Just before joining Susquehanna, he was the assistant sports information director at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY.
As an undergraduate at Duquesne, Robert worked for the student radio station and student newspaper while playing football and competing in indoor and outdoor track & field. He also worked for Clear Channel Communications, Inc., as a promotions assistant. Robert's four Duquesne football teams (two as an all-conference honoree) did not lose a conference game while winning four straight championships, including a national title in 2003. He received a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies with minors in multimedia and sociology.
Robert continued to compete in track & field during graduate school and was a teaching assistant. He taught two sections of a Language for Journalists course and was an assistant for two sections of a Media and Sports course. He enjoyed a standout track & field season in 2005-06 when he set Duquesne's indoor and outdoor shot put records and won the Atlantic Ten Conference discus-throw title. He finished grad school with a 4.00 GPA, an Atlantic Ten Student-Athlete of the Year award and an Academic All-America honor. He received a Master of Science in Multimedia Technology degree with a focus in Professional Media Practices.
Robert's field of expertise is sports; though, his education was in journalism in general. Most clips in his portfolio are non-sports-related. He has a passion for history, rhetoric and ethics. He has also performed as an actor and a voice performer for a number of companies.
Robert has worked as a sports-radio commentator (both play-by-play and color) for Duquesne, Hamilton and Susquehanna, earning two Associated Press awards in the process. He has also been a college football sideline reporter for WOLF-TV in the Wilkes-Barre, PA, area.
His recruiting pamphlets at Susquehanna, for which he provided art direction, won awards for design. He designed and built a new Web identity for Susquehanna Athletics during his time there, as well.
Robert and his wife, Nicole, live in Baldwin Borough. Their first child, a girl, was born in March 2013.
Robert enjoys playing baseball and softball. He competed for the Pittsburgh Black Sox, a semi-professional baseball team based in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood, from 2005 to 2008 and in 2011 and 2013. He also played for the semi-pro Elizabeth Rebels in 2012. Robert is a former member of the USA Bobsled & Skeleton Federation, having trained with U.S. bobsledders and competed for a roster spot in that organization in 2008. He also boasts an undefeated record as a super-heavyweight for the South Park Boxing Club.
