About Me: Despite the fact that I can remember reading the newspaper as far back as elementary school, I never considered going into journalism; rather, I always thought I'd end up working in collegiate athletics.
But when I saw an ad looking for a freelance sports reporter for the Marblehead Reporter, I decided I'd give it a shot. Three years later and I had written sports features and covered sporting events for several of the Reporter's sister publications as well.
After pursuing various things outside of journalism for a few years, I began freelancing for a number of Patch sites south of Boston in the spring of 2011. While I still got to cover sports, Patch gave me the opportunity to expand the subjects that I got to write about. I reported on School Committee meetings, Selectmen meetings, school events and profiled some very interesting people and businesses.
A native of the North Shore, my college education began at the University of Memphis before concluding with my BS in communications from Salem State University.
Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for me to inject my beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: I hope that the knowledge that my beliefs are on the record will cause me to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that I failed in this mission, please let me know.
Politics
I am unaffiliated with any political party. My views fall in different parts of the spectrum in terms of conservative or liberal depending on the issue.
Religion
I was raised Jewish. My family went to a conservative synagogue on the High Holy Days and I was Bar Mitzvahed; however, I haven't practiced any particular form of religion in quite some time.
