Opening Of VA's Second Buc-ee's Travel Center Delayed: See Proposed New Date
The Texas-based company first announced its plans to build a Virginia location off Exit 211 on Interstate 64 in 2023.
NEW KENT COUNTY, VA — Virginians eagerly awaiting the opening of the state's second Buc-ee's, the cult favorite convenience store chain known for its mascot and the "world's cleanest bathrooms," will have to wait longer to get their hands on some beaver nuggets and a brisket sandwich.
The Texas-based company first announced its plans to build a location off Exit 211 on Interstate 64 in 2023. Originally, the location was slated to open this year, but the date was later pushed back to 2027.
However, the widening of I-64 and interchange improvements associated with the project mean the store is now unlikely to be operational until 2029 at the earliest, according to a Virginian-Pilot report citing New Kent County Administrator Rodney Hathaway.

“I think we’ll really see the kickoff of the improvements next year,” Hathaway said. “That’s going to be a lengthy project.”
According to Buc-ee's, the massive 74,000-square-foot store in New Kent County will have 120 fuel spots, 557 parking spaces, 24 Tesla charging spaces, and 10 bus and RV parking spaces.
While the New Kent County store was the first to be announced, Buc-ee's opened the company's first Virginia location in June off Interstate 81 near Harrisonburg.
According to the company, “Buc-ee’s Travel Center is a family-focused travel center featuring a wide range of freshly prepared foods including home-crafted bbq, custom-made sandwiches, fresh salads and fruits, baked goods, and sweets as well as a unique collection of gifts, housewares, clothing, and weekend getaway gear."
