A Centreville man won $100,000 from playing the Virginia Lottery, even though he thought he would never win.

CENTREVILLE, VA — A Centreville man won $100,000 from playing the Virginia Lottery, even though he thought he would never win.
Jesus Serrano Mendez scratched a $326,000 000 Fortune ticket from the Virginia Lottery and found out he had won. He bought the winning ticket at the Giant Food at 14125 St. Germaine Drive in Centreville.
Mendez, who works as a landscaper, told the Virginia Lottery that he plans to help his family with the winnings.

The $326,000,000 Fortune game is a new scratcher from the Virginia Lottery. It features three top prizes of $5 million apiece, none of which have been claimed yet. Mendez was the first player to claim the $100,000 second prize, which means 11 more remain unclaimed.
The chances of winning the $5 million top prize are 1 in 2,774,400. The chances of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 3.43.

All Virginia Lottery profits go to K-12 education in Virginia. Mendez lives in Fairfax County, which received nearly $48.7 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education last fiscal year.
