Clifton Fire Sends One to Burn Center

A man at the residence on Popes Head Road was flown by helicopter to the Washington Burn Center with life-threatening injuries.

Fairfax County firefighters were called to a house fire about a mile from Twin Lakes Golf Course, at approximately 4 p.m. today.

Located at 12441 Pope’s Head Dr., the home was fully engulfed when fire personnel arrived. Firefighters saw a man, presumably the owner, running back into the home. The man, who was estimated to be in his 50s, was taken by Medi-Vac helicopter to the Washington Burn Center with life-threatening injuries.

A Fairfax County firefighter was treated for face lacerations at Fair Oaks Hospital.

According to Battalion Commander Glenn Bydume the fire was controlled in about 10-15 minutes and put out in about 30 minutes.  The home sustained significant damage. It was believed to be the residence of two people, one of whom was not at home at the time of the blaze.
