Community to Commemorate Anniversary of Sept. 11th Attacks

Memorial ceremonies will be held at Westfield High School and the Fairfax County Government Center.

During the last decade, Centreville has commemorated the anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11 with a simple candlelight vigil outside Fire Station 438. 

With the ten-year anniversary of the attacks approaching, the Sully Station II Neighborhood Watch and the Sons of the American Revolution have planned something far bigger: held at the stadium. 

The ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11th. Highlights include patriotic music from the Northern Virginia Firefighter's Emerald Society Pipe Band and Bugles Across AmericaWJLA reporter Gail Pennybacker will introduce the guests and speakers, while Fr. Edward C. Hathaway from will say a benediction. Del. Tim Hugo will present the state flag.

A rememberance ceremony will also take place at the Fairfax County Government Center on Sept. 11th from 2 to 3 p.m. Centreville's Girl Scout Troop 1840 and Clifton's Troop 4625 will participate in the ceremony. A procession to the Sept. 11th Memorial Grove will follow.
