The last time voters cast their ballots at the Bull Run precinct, briefly interrupted the day's activities. , due to concerns that the building was damaged.
Tuesday's election was much less eventful, as Centreville voters headed to the polls throughout a sunny election day in slow but steady numbers to cast their ballots .
Turnout varied from precinct to precinct, but by around 2 p.m., nearly 450 voters out of about 2250 at the Bull Run precinct had turned in their ballots, said John Kuchenbrod, the chief election officer.
"It's been good, it's been solid. We're on track to get 35 percent" by the end of the day, he said.
That number would be higher than in a number of places in Fairfax County, where voting is expected to stay light this year. Fairfax County General Registrar Cameron Quinn , "I'll be surprised if we break 30 percent countywide." Voter turnout is higher where races are tight, she said. The Washington Post also predicts a turnout of fewer than one-third of voters throughout the state.
"It's been a nice, steady flow," said Brian Treadwell, chief election officer at the Powell precinct, adding that the busiest time was in the first hour, between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m., as voters lined up to use the electronic machines. Voters seemed to prefer those, he said, even though there was no line for the paper ballots. 466 voters out of around 4500 at the precinct had cast their ballots by 2:30 p.m.
Polls remain open until 7 p.m.
