FAUQUIER COUNTY, VA — A teenager accused of killing his mother and younger brother at the family’s home in Fauquier County on Feb. 14, 2020, pleaded guilty in court on Monday, according to a report.

Levi Norwood, 19, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Jennifer, 34, and a charge of second-degree murder in the death of his 6-year-old brother, Wyatt, WTOP reported Monday.

A Fauquier County Circuit Court judge has ordered a pre-sentencing investigation. He set a status hearing on the investigation for Nov. 3.

Norwood was a 17-year-old junior at Liberty High School in Bealeton at the time of the killings. After the killings, Levi Norwood fled his family's house in the community of Midland and traveled on foot about 10 miles, where he stole a car, according to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office.

Norwood then traveled to Durham, North Carolina, in the stolen car, where he was caught shoplifting at a Target, police said.

According to the sheriff's office, Norwood also shot and injured his father, Joshua Norwood, on Feb. 14. But charges in the case involving the wounding of his father were dropped.

In late April 2020, Joshua Norwood was found dead in the family home in Fauquier County, apparently by suicide, according to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.

Since the killings on Valentine's Day in 2020, Norwood has undergone two psychiatric evaluations, but the findings of the evaluations have not been released by the judge in the case. Norwood has repeatedly been found competent to stand trial, WTOP reported.

According to charging documents in the case, Norwood told his girlfriend “that he wanted to kill his mother.” The girlfriend also said Norwood was depressed and anxious, according to WTOP.
