Green Beret Buried With Honors, 42 Years After Death
Charles Newton died during the Vietnam War and was buried with honors on Wednesday at Arlington National Cemetery.
Forty-two years ago Master Sgt. Charles Newton, Sgt. 1st class Douglas Dahill and Sgt. 1st Class Charles F. Prevedel were ambushed and killed while on a patrol in Vietnam.
Wednesday, the three men were finally buried, with full military honors, in Arlington National Cemetery.
Charles Newton is the brother of John Newton, 75, who lives in Centreville, according to the Amarillo Globe-News. “There’s probably not a day goes by that I don’t think of Charles,” John Newton said to the Globe-News.

The Department of Defense (DOD) said in a press release that the soldiers had radioed for assistance, but the Army wasn't able to help because of thunderstorms. Afterwards, there was no sign of them. The DOD said that the bodies were finally identified based on extensive forensic testing and a two-decade-long investigation.
