Post Office Wants Its Delivery Boxes Back

Give the USPS a Christmas present: return their storage boxes.

"Borrow" one of those handy blue or white delivery boxes from the United States Postal Service lately—or ten years ago? The post office wants it back.

Citing financial difficulties, the USPS issued an "all-points bulletin" this week, asking anyone who has taken one of the pallets or boxes (called "flat tubs") to return them as soon as possible. The USPS says that the boxes are federal property and if people bring them back during an "amnesty period" between Nov. 12th and 26th, there will be no questions asked and no penalties.

“The Postal Service spent nearly $50 million this past fiscal year to replace equipment that was never returned,” said David Williams, vice president, Network Operations. “This is a serious issue. We are in a financial crisis and simply cannot afford this type of unnecessary expense.”
