If you turn on the radio this afternoon and hear an alert going, no need to be alarmed. It's only a test, FEMA and the FCC say.
The first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will last for 30 seconds on all broadcast media, including television and radio stations. It will occur at 2 p.m. and also include a notice that the alert is just a test to check the reliability of the system.
