Centreville Day Preparations Underway

The annual Centreville Day celebration is scheduled for Oct. 20. Organizers still need vendors and performers to sign up for the event.

Centreville Day isn't until Oct. 20, but organizers are already hard at work lining up vendors and organizing volunteers.

The day's schedule includes "ghost tours" and bus tours of historic Centreville, a cannon firing, and trick-or-treating for the kids. There will be opportunities to make candles, watch a weaving demonstration and see antique cars.

There will also be a one-mile fun run to benefit the Candlelighters Foundation, which helps families with children diagnosed with cancer. There has also been some discussion of holding a 5k fun run, though a decision on that will be made at a later date.

At this point, organizers are still looking for more vendors to sign up for the event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"We want a good mix of what is available locally," said Marla Gebaide, the vendor coordinator.

Businesses, nonprofits and others may register by visiting the website, or contact Gebaide at centrevilleday@gmail.com with any questions. There are a number of vendors already signed up, including some who will display crafts, jewelry and other items (look for Patch's table, too). There's also still a need for performers at the event.

Anyone who would like to volunteer at Centreville Day may email vendors@centrevilleday.org with questions. There are also at the Sully District Governmental Center in Chantilly. The next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Proceeds from Centreville Day will benefit the Friends of Historic Centreville, a nonprofit organization that supports the Historic Centreville Park.
