Chantilly resident Ryan McCarthy was part of a two-man team from Radford University which placed fifth in the National Guard FLW College Fishing Northern Conference event on the Ohio River/Tanners Creek on Aug. 5.  The other member of the team was Steven Jarrells of of Radford.  McCarthy and Jarrells won $1,000 and the right to advance to the Northern Conference Championship on Sept. 13-15 on Philpott Lake in Bassett. The winning team will win a Ranger 1771TR bass boat with a 90-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard. McCarthy has been a member of the Radford University team for 4 years. He graduated from Chantilly  High School in 2008 and from Radford in May 2012.
