Try Transit Week During September 21-25 Encourages Use of Public Transportation

During Try Transit Week, Virginians are invited to try one of the many of transit options available.

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), in collaboration with other transportation partners, is sponsoring “Try Transit Week” next week.

During this week, the DRPT is encouraging drivers statewide to avoid driving solo and give options such as vanpool, rail, bus, and ferry transit a try.

According to the DRPT, most people could use more money and time.

“Transit helps you get more of both,” states TryTransitWeek.org. “By using transit, you save on fuel and certain car expenses that, for the average family, can add up to $10,000 a year.”

As an incentive, prizes are being offered to those who pledge online at http://trytransitweek.org/pledge.aspx to try transit or already are using transit.

Grand prize is one year of transit service and a pair of round-trip tickets on Amtrak’s Northeast Regional. Other prizes include Dash prizes, Loudoun county transit commuter bus passes and a few others.

This week will also focus on car free day, an international event, which will be on September 22nd.
