April 12 is Thank Election Heroes Day
League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area to thank Fairfax County and Fairfax City Office of Elections

1 in 5 local election administrators say they are likely to leave their jobs before the 2024 presidential election. This is a result of the new emergence of harassment and even death threats that election officials are receiving from proponents of “The Big Lie” - the baseless claim that the 2020 election was stolen.
Americans across race, place, and party believe in the freedom to decide for ourselves who represents us. In the face of a pandemic and barriers erected to silence our voices, Americans turned out in record numbers to cast their ballots to have our voices heard.
However, individuals have spread lies about our election in an effort to sow distrust about our elections and have threatened hard working election workers with violence just for doing their jobs.

Voting in elections is how we, the people, have a say in the decisions that impact our lives - from the jobs in our communities to the healthcare we have access to. Election workers are essential workers that support our communities - like nurses, grocery store workers, letter carriers, and firefighters.
Nationwide, Thank Election Heroes Day is Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Locally, members of the League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area will show their gratitude to Fairfax County and Fairfax City Office of Elections on April 11.
