- If you've seen more officers on the road recently, there's a good reason: Last week, the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) rolled out its 2023 "Road Shark" campaign countywide. The FCPD Road Shark program, first introduced in 1999, aims to reduce motor vehicle crashes and reduce aggressive driving in the area. During this year's campaign, FCPD officers and Virginia State troopers will be stationed at high-visibility areas throughout Fairfax County, keeping an eye out for various traffic violations. (Patch)
- The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) has developed a list of pedestrian safety projects recommended for funding, including several improvements to be implemented throughout the county. The list of approximately 40 proposals will be considered by the Board of Supervisors on Apr. 11, with a finalized list expected to be approved by next fall. In total, the board is seeking $100 million in funding for these pedestrian improvement projects. (Annandale Blog)
- On Sunday evening, a driver fired multiple gunshots at other vehicles on the Fairfax County Beltway. The suspect was driving a sedan and headed northbound on I-495 near Exit 52, according to Virginia State troopers. Police say one vehicle was struck by the gunfire, though no injuries were reported.
