Here are the top three stories in Fairfax Station:
- Fairfax County is hosting a community meeting for the Pan Am Shopping Center redevelopment plan. The owner of the Fairfax City shopping center filed a rezoning application in December 2021 to convert part of the center to residential uses, while keeping some retail uses and adding new park spaces. The meeting is scheduled for Mar. 30 from 7-9 p.m. at the former Pet Value store; Fairfax County residents can click here to learn more about the proposed amendment or provide feedback. (Fairfax City Patch)
- Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station is officially open for the season. The marina building and boat rentals will be open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. through the month of March, while the park itself will be open from 6:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m. You can also purchase Bull Run Marina keys any time the marina building is open. (Fountainhead Regional Park via Facebook)
- On Mar. 9, the Fairfax County School Board passed a resolution to grant collective bargaining rights to employees. The move was praised by the Fairfax County Federation of Teachers for giving teachers the ability to negotiate for better working conditions, wages, and benefits. The decision followed the Virginia General Assembly's 2020 action allowing school boards to enter into collective bargaining relationships with staff representatives. (Annandale Today)
