Here are the top three stories in Greater Alexandria today:

  1. The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 200 block of South Reynolds Street at around 11:35 p.m. on Mar. 3. Police found a man with trauma to his upper body who later died at a local hospital. Police ask anyone with information about this incident to contact Detective Michael Whelan at 703-746-6228, by email at Michael.Whelan@alexandriava.gov, or to call the APD non-emergency number at 703-746-4444. (City of Alexandria)
  2. On Friday, Mar. 3, retired Col. Paris Davis, one of the first Black officers to lead a Special Forces team in combat, received the Medal of Honor for his bravery in the Vietnam War. Davis was recommended for the nation’s highest military award 60 years ago but did not receive it until last week. The 83-year-old Alexandria resident said, “It is in the best interests of America that we do things like this.” President Joe Biden said Davis should have received the honor years ago and told Davis, "You are everything this medal means. You’re everything our nation is at our best. Brave and big-hearted, determined and devoted, selfless and steadfast.” (Fox 29)
  3. Old Town Alexandria's 40th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade was a huge success! Thousands of people spent Saturday afternoon, Mar. 4, enjoying the parade and the people. One resident and parade watcher, Richard, said, "It’s been shut down for two years with COVID, so this is all the energy. Everybody’s all excited to get back out again, so here we are!” (WTOP)
