BJ's Grants $25K to Three Charity Organizations in Alexandria

BJ's Charitable Foundation recently announced the distribution of eight grants to charitable organizations in Virginia for the total of $58,000. The eight organizations chosen focus on health and well being of children and families located in the communities in which BJ’s Wholesale Clubs serve, according to a recent news release.

Among the eight organizations that received grants, three are located in the Alexandria area. United Community Ministries received $10,000 to purchase food for the Meeting People's Basic Needs Program.

ALIVE! Inc., received $10,000 for the purchase of emergency food for the Food and Family Emergency Program. SCAN of Northern Virginia received $5,000 to support the direct service, program-related portion of the salaries for three CASA Case Supervisors and to purchase classroom supplies and food for training classes as part of SCAN's Court Appointed Special Advocate Program.

"You can look to BJ’s Charitable Foundation to put a strong emphasis on giving back to local communities that support basic needs.”

All of the nonprofit organizations that received grants are aligned with the foundation's focus of providing services in the form of hunger prevention, self-sufficiency, health care or education to those in need who reside in the communities where BJ’s Wholesale Clubs are located.

Other organizations that received grants include:

• Literacy Council of Northern Virginia, Inc., Falls Church, VA: $10,000 to purchase books, supplemental materials and testing kits and to pay the direct service, program-related portion of the salary for teachers in the Family Learning Program.
• Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Inc., Norfolk, VA: $5,000 to provide new, age-appropriate books for children ages 6 months – 5 years to receive at pediatrician visits for the Reach Out and Read Program.
• Child & Family Services of Eastern VA, Norfolk, VA: $3,000 to provide program materials and supplies; food for monthly mentor training sessions; and MentorPro evaluation software to track program outcomes for the Team Up Mentoring Program.
• Olivet Medical Ministries, Yorktown, VA: $5,000 to provide dental supplies and to repair used equipment for the Dental Clinic for Uninsured Patients Program.
• Doorways for Women and Families, Arlington, VA: $10,000 to support direct-service, program-related portions of salary costs for Financial Educators who work directly with clients one-on-one in shelter or in their own apartments though the Financial Independence Track (FIT) Program.
