Fairfax County Water Pollution Meeting Tuesday Night in Mount Vernon

Learn how Fairfax County is trying to stop water pollution Tuesday at meeting from 6 to 8 p.m., at Mount Vernon Government Center.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- From Supervisor Dan Storck: "Everyone wants clean, healthy water, but around 80 percent of Fairfax County’s streams are in fair to poor condition and sections of the Potomac River are impaired. The county is preparing action plans to reduce pollutants into local water bodies. One tool for controlling water pollutants is a called a TMDL, total maximum daily load. A TMDL is like a “water pollution budget” and it allocates reductions in pollution sources in an effort to meet clean water standards. To improve water quality, Fairfax County is preparing four action plans for TMDLs that have been established for several streams and for the Chesapeake Bay."

Supervisor Dan Storck and Fairfax County officials invite the public to learn about the county’s draft action plans and to provide comments Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Government Center, 2511 Parkers Lane, Alexandria 22307.

The four draft plans are here:
