Group Fighting Rezoning of Local Farm Property Launches Blog

More than 600 signatures have been gathered on a petition to stop further rezoning of the property.

Mt. Vernon Residents Against Rezoning, which is protesting changes being requested for development of a local property, has launched a blog to keep local residents informed of their protest.

The group is fighting the rezoning of the Justice Snowden Farm (Bock Farm). The group's petition on Change.org now has over 600+ signatures.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will vote on Nov. 1 on whether to rezone an almost 12-acre farm at the corner of Parkers Lane and Hinson Farm Lane in the Mt. Vernon District of Fairfax County. The farm is known as Justice Snowden Farm, and is owned by Bill and Valerie Bock. The developers, Bock Farm LLC, plan to build on the 4+ acres of the farm.

The group is urging Mt. Vernon Supervisor Dan Storck to vote "no" on the proposed rezoning of Justice Snowden Farm.

Residents Against Rezoning says that Bock Farm LLC is now pursuing a rezoning that would change the zoning from PDH-5 to R-8, which would allow significantly more residents than the plan currently allows. They are also seeking special exceptions to build five feet higher than currently permitted, and asking for a waiver of the existing minimum setback requirements for independent living facilities.
