Beltway Reopens After Tractor-Trailer Overturns Near Alexandria
A tractor-trailer overturned and caught on fire near Alexandria Thursday afternoon.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — All lanes on the Beltway have reopened following the crash of a tractor-trailer that overturned and caught fire near Alexandria Thursday, Fairfax Fire and Rescue said. Inner Loop delays were about 9.5 miles, and Outer Loop delays were 2 miles, say Fairfax County officials.
The closure was prior to South Van Dorn Street and was in p lace for approximately three hours, according to Fairfax Fire and Rescue.
The truck was traveling westbound on the Inner Loop (I-495/95) when it struck a jersey wall and caught fire just east of Interstate 395, say media reports. The truck went partially over the wall into the Outer Loop, spilling a load of insulation onto the roadway. The insulation was not hazardous, say the Virginia State Police.
