Inova Mount Vernon Hospital to Get New Emergency Department
The new 21,000 square foot addition will have 30 treatment bays and five fast-track bays.
The Inova Governance Board recently approved a new addition to the emergency department at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.
The 21,000 square-foot addition will have 30 treatment bays, five fast-track bays, CT and digital X-Rays, and a modern HVAC system, according to a news release sent out Tueday by the hospital. The addition will also create a new emergency department entrance that will separate emergency patient flow from other patient and visitor traffic.
“This is an exciting announcement for the Mount Vernon community, because it represents the creation of an emergency department that fully meets the needs of this growing community – not only today, but also into the future,” Inova CEO Knox Singleton said in a release. “Our hospital staff and physicians are delighted with the Board’s approval of this addition.”

“Our goal is always to provide our community with the best possible quality care and this is another step toward that goal,” said Barbara Doyle, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital CEO and Inova senior vice president.
After certain parts of the existing emergency department are moved into the new addition, this project will free up 10,000 square feet of space for the development of other programs and services. Construction of the new addition is scheduled to begin in 2014.
