July 30: Orchestra Performance, Sweet Frog and Politics and Prose
Here's what you should know in Alexandria today.
It's Tuesday, and July is quickly coming to an end. But before we move on to the dog days of August, here's some information and events you should know about in Alexandria today.
- If you need a way to cool down in this July heat in NoVa, maybe yet another Sweet Frog location can help you do that. A new location is set to open on Richmond Highway next to Gold's Gym by the end of August. So in the future, you can get in a good work out and go right next door to reward yourself for your troubles.
- When traveling along Richmond Highway, keep in mind some lane closures and minor traffic due to construction at Costco. Construction workers have mostly finished the turning lanes into the new store's parking lot. Costco on Richmond Highway is scheduled to open Aug. 8.
- Learn the basics of using your personal computer. Sign up for a training one-hour session with a technology volunteer at Sherwood Regional Library.
- Swing by the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. It offers free performances 365 days a year. Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., catch the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra. The group brings together musicians of different ages and abilities to promote mutual growth and understanding through musical performance.
- The butler did it, and the reporter wrote it. Listen to the story of Eugene Allen who worked as a White House butler for 34 years as told by reporter Wil Haygood in his book “The Butler: A Witness to History.” Haygood will discuss his book at Politics and Prose, 5015 Connecticut Ave., NW in Washington. Beer and wine available. 7 p.m.
