UPDATE: Missing Elderly Woman from Northern Virginia Found, Police Say

Search had widened for Carol Westerman, 84, when she was last seen driving in the direction of Fort Belvoir Friday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA (UPDATE 6:55 p.m.) -- Fairfax County Police (FCPD) report that Northern Virginia resident Carol Westerman, 84, has been found Saturday night, after she went missing Friday afternoon.

"Carol Westerman was found and returned home safely," police said in a statement released Saturday at 6:12 p.m. "Thank you to all that were concerned."

The search was on Saturday for the missing elderly woman, who was last seen at noon Friday in Northern Virginia.

Virginia State Police issued an alert Saturday at 3:10 p.m., widening the search on behalf of FCPD.

Westerman was last seen in the 6600 block of Wakefield Drive in Alexandria (see map below). She was traveling to the Fort Belvoir area in a silver 1999 Chevrolet Prism with Virginia license plates YUT4809, according to police.

"Ms. Westerman has medical conditions and her family is concerned for her wellbeing," reads a statement released by police before she was found.
