National Night Out, the Washington Nationals and Pizzeria Paradiso

Looking for something to do today? Here are a few things you should know in Alexandria for Aug. 6.
Tuesday marks National Night Out, an initiative sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. Cities across the nation along with their neighborhood watch groups and local law enforcers celebrate crime and drug prevention. In the Greater Alexandria area, many neighborhoods will turn on their porch lights, host neighborhood cook-outs and sponsor block parties in support of National Night Out. FCPD will visit residents during their events. McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog will also be in attendance in the communities on Tuesday.
Get happy at Pizzeria Paradiso. The Italian restaurant offers a happy hour Monday throughThursday evenings at its Old Town (124 King St., Alexandria, 703-837-1245) and Georgetown (3282 M St., NW, Washington 202-337-1245) locations. Happy hour is everyTuesday and Wednesday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dupont Circle location (2003 P St. NW Washington). Enjoy ½ price draft beers, $5 appetizers and all 8-inch pizzas on the menu for about $10.
Enjoy an evening out with Café Scientifique, organized by the Ballston Science and Technology Alliance. The group meets every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Front Page in Ballston, 4201 Wilson Blvd., 703-248-9990. The group aims to discuss science in plain English. Leave the jargon at home. Tuesday is also half-price burger night at the Front Page!
Take a tour of Tudor Place Historic House and Garden in Georgetown, 1644 31st St., NW, 202-965-0400. 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. There is a $10 fee, but Tudor Place is offering free admission all summer for active-duty members of the U.S. military and their families.
