Here are the top three stories today in Greater Alexandria:

  1. Atlas Brew Works is opening its first Virginia location in Alexandria's Carlyle Crossing mixed-use development, offering a brewery, taproom, and food from Andy’s Pizza. The 6,000-square-foot space will include a production capacity of 2,000 barrels, a taproom with 16 draft lines, and outdoor patio space, with a late-2023 opening. The brewery also plans to pursue sustainable energy sources. Customers can expect the brewery's six core beers and limited releases brewed only in the Alexandria location. (The Zebra)
  2. The Virginia General Assembly passed a bill to increase regulations on hemp-derived products that contain THC, which will require a more robust permitting system and stricter labeling rules. The proposal is aimed at cracking down on largely unregulated THC products, including delta-8 edibles, that have raised safety and consumer protection concerns. While Gov. Glenn Youngkin supports the bill, there are mixed opinions on the proposed law, with some warning that it may lead to a convoluted regulatory scheme for cannabis. (Royal Examiner)
  3. Five new homes have been listed for sale in the Greater Alexandria area. Available properties range from a 930-square-foot, two-bed, one-bath home for $389,000 to a $1.3 million home with four beds, three baths, and 3,696 square feet.
