Patch Picks: 5 Local Boutiques Worth Trying

Forget D.C., Mount Vernon boutiques have a lot to offer

Each week, Fort Hunt Patch highlights the best, the most, the newest, the tastiest of whatever the topic of the day is.

There is something refreshing about not having to drive to a mall or take the metro into D.C. to get your Saturday shopping done.  That’s why this week “Patch Picks” five local boutiques worth trying.

Initial Impressions.  While many customers buy merchandise in Initial Impressions, people can also bring in items to be personalized.  And according to one Yelp reviewer the service couldn’t be better.  “The owner was extremely patient and helpful as I selected a monogram font and was creative about monogramming the diaper bag I'd brought,” said Yelp user Ashley M.

. From cosmetic bags to home décor, The Virginia Florist offers high-quality merchandise for residents of all ages. Businesses from across the metropolitan area look towards the shop for well-designed flower arrangements too. And with a new shop in the Hollin Hall Shopping Center, the location couldn’t be more convenient.

Need a last minute item for a birthday party? Avoid the traffic on Route one and head on over to Kathy’s Corner.  From decorations and balloons to china and stationary, Kathy’s Corner can take care of your gifting needs.

Kids grow up so fast that sometimes it's smarter to just buy a “gently used” shirt from a consignment shop, than to get anything new. This store offers an array of children's toys and clothes consigned from individuals all over the area.  And you won’t have to sift through stained or torn items to find what you are looking for.

.  Ok. So we are not sure the Variety Store could be classified as a "boutique" exactly, but it does offer items that can't be found in your average department store. And who doesn't need a dose of nostalgia every now and then?  As one Fort Hunt patch reader put it: "I still get a great pleasure from perusing the toy isle, as I did in 1959."
