UPDATE: Police Identify Pedestrian Killed in Crash on Richmond Highway

Police say a man, 56, was struck by an SUV. The driver immediately stopped and police do not anticipate any charges.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County Police have identified the pedestrian who died after a crash Tuesday morning on Richmond Highway as Aaron Nelson McCullough, 56.

The fatality took place in the 8300 block of Richmond Highway (see map) Tuesday morning at about 6:17 a.m., according to police.

Preliminary information suggests that the pedestrian was walking in the far left lane, southbound on Richmond Highway and was not in a crosswalk, according to police. McCullough continued to walk in the left lane and was struck by a 2008 GMC Yukon (SUV) traveling southbound, police said. The driver of the SUV, a 69-year old woman, immediately stopped and remained on the scene.

Officer Don Gotthardt, a spokesman for FCPD, said no charges are anticipated after the initial investigation. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in this crash.

The crash closed all but one lane of southbound Richmond Highway in front of the South County Government Center early Tuesday, police said. Officers were on the scene directing traffic around the crash site. The roadway completely reopened around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
