Pedestrian Struck, Killed Near Richmond Highway: Police
The Alexandria area man, 57, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car Thursday at about 5:44 p.m

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County Police say an Alexandria area man has died after being struck by a car Thursday evening at Richmond Highway and Frye Road (see map below).
David D. Baines, 57, of the Alexandria area, was crossing Frye Road near the crosswalk, according to police, when he was struck by a car driven by a 52-year old man. The driver, in a 2005 Mercedes-Benz ES500, was heading down on Richmond Highway when he turned onto westbound Frye Road, police said.
Baines was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver remained on scene and Crash Reconstruction detectives assumed the investigation. On Friday, just before 1 a.m., Baines succumbed to his injuries, police said. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors to the crash, according to police. The investigation continues.
