Photos: Mount Vernon ABC Store Celebrates Grand Opening

A new Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) store celebrated its grand opening in the Mount Vernon Square shopping center on Friday morning.

The ABC store is located at 7469-7471 Richmond Highway in Alexandria. An ABC location existed at the Mount Vernon Plaza shopping center until last summer, when its lease expired. Prior to reopening the Mount Vernon store, the closest ABC store was in the Shoppers Penn Daw Shopping Center.

The store measures 3,200 square feet, carries 1,227 items and employs six people - a store manager, an assistant manager, two lead sales associates and two clerks.

ABC has opened 80 stores in the last decade and plans to open 20 more in the next three years. According to ABC Chief Operating Officer Curtis Colburn, locations are strategically chosen via a scientific method using GIS data to see where people live and shop and locate gaps in the service area.
