FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- –The George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) will rehabilitate three comfort stations in parks along the roadway, the National Park Service announced Thursday.

This rehabilitation project will modernize the facilities and ensure compliance with Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards (ABAAS) at:

  • Belle Haven Marina
  • Columbia Island Marina
  • Daingerfield Island

The comfort stations will be closed during the construction, according to the park service. Temporary toilets will be provided. Weather permitting, all three restrooms will be reopened by Nov. 1. This project was funded by park entrance fees, the NPS noted. The regulations of the Recreational Fee Program require the park to spend the fees on projects that benefit the visitors.
