Good morning, Alexandria! It's Wednesday, Sept. 4. Fairfax County students are taking on their second day of classes for the school year. Besides that, there's plenty going on in the NoVa region. Here's what you need to know about in and around Alexandria today.

What happens to fish and other animals when an oil spill occurs?
 The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service chief, branch of Environmental Response and Restoration, will discuss the responsibilities of FWS and explain how animals are captured and cleaned. Children’s book store Hooray for Books!

It's an early Jewish New Year in 2013 as Jews in Reston and all over will ring in 5774  Wednesday night through Friday. Rosh Hashanah, which occurs 143 days after Passover according to the Greogorian calendar, will be the earliest it has been since 1899.
