Weekend Planner: FitFest, Fort Hunt 5K, and Outdoor Movies

Check out these events in Northern Virginia this weekend.

The weekend is upon us in Northern Virginia and it's time to start making plans for some fun. Patch has compiled a list of events that the whole family can enjoy. Have a great weekend!

Mount Vernon RECenter’s Public Skate

Every Sunday, the Mount Vernon RECenter opens its ice rink to the public for a weekend skate session. $7.25 per person. Mount Vernon RECenter is located at 2017 Belle View Blvd, Alexandria.

Mount Vernon Trail Race

The second race of the Mount Vernon Trail Race series features 5K trail race is on a two lap course in areas E and F at Fort Hunt Park.  The route includes a small stream crossing, some short hills, and lots of single track.  The course has rolling hills with just over a hundred feet of elevation.  Packet pickup is at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and the race starts at 9. $15 per person. Outdoor Fitness Bootcamp

Kick off your weekend with a bootcamp class at Lower Potomac Park in Lorton on Saturday morning. Sponsored by Bootcamp NOVA, the class is great for beginners and novices. $10 per person.

Outdoor Movie Night on the Lawn at Paradise Springs Winery

Grab a blanket and head to Paradise Springs Winery in Clifton Saturday night at 8 p.m. for Screen on the Green. This week’s movie is “A Good Year.” The winery will be selling wines by the bottle and by the glass.

FitFest – Family Fun Day at the nZone

Bring your family to the nZone in Chantilly for its free FitFest Family Fun Day on Saturday. Check out free fitness classes for kids from preschool through adult; demonstrations from American Karate and Soccer Tots; food; live band; agility and strength tests and sample training for kids and adults; moon bounces; interactive exhibits, and more. A Zumbathon will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. and costs $10 to participate.
