Woman Shot, Infant Found Safe In Car In Hybla Valley Parking Lot
Fairfax County Police detectives are investigating a shooting that took place in the Mount Vernon Plaza Saturday.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — Fairfax County Police detectives are investigating a shooting that took place in the Mount Vernon Plaza at 7694 Richmond Highway in the Hybla Valley neighborhood, in which a woman received a life-threatening gunshot wound while in a car with an infant.
Officers responded just before 4 p.m. Saturday and found the woman outside the car in the parking lot shot in the upper body. Police immediately began giving her first aid. They also made sure that the infant in the car was unharmed.

"Everyone is in custody at this time, and our detectives are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting," said Fairfax County Police Lt. James Curry during a news conference in the parking lot.
Police took two adults at the scene into custody and the woman was taken to the hospital. Curry said all the adults are acquainted.

Curry said detectives are still attempting to determine the relationship of the infant to the woman and the two people taken into custody.
"The important thing is that child is safe," he said.
Curry said police will continue to provide updates on the shooting as they are made available.
