Lake Ridge Man Charged With Reckless Handling of Firearm

The apparent accidental shooting left a 23-year-old victim injured in the arm.

In the early hours of the morning on Aug. 13, Dustin Atienza, 24, of Lake Ridge, was arrested and charged with recklessly handling a handgun in his home in the 12400 block of Cavalier Drive, according to police spokesperson Jonathan Perok.

When police investigated, they found that the accused and three other men were hunting for a handgun in Atienza's garage. When Atienza allegedly picked up the handgun, he reportedly pulled the trigger and shot one of the men in the arm.

Police believe the shooting was most likely accidental. "The victim was flown to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries," the police report read.

Atienza was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm. His court date is Sept. 10. He was released on a $5000 unsecured bond.
