Over 75 Dogs to Go Trick-or-Treating in Occoquan This Sunday

The event will raise money for the Prince William County Dog Park and Golden Retriever Rescue Education and Training (GRREAT).

Trick-or-Treating isn't just for two-legged critters. On Oct. 30 at noon, dogs will go trick-or-treating throughout Occoquan to raise money for the and Golden Retriever Rescue Education and Training (GRREAT).

is hosting the event, which is sponsored by on Old Bridge Road. Fetch owner Lisa Erbe expects a turnout of 80 to 90 dogs.

“We have a great time every year seeing the dogs and their owners dressed up in costumes. Not only is it a lot of fun, it also gives us the chance to support local causes that are important to dog lovers like us," Erbe said.

Since the dog park will not be built using public funds, supporters are trying to raise money in other ways.

Jacquie Lopez, with in Occoquan, has been holding Yappie Hours on Tuesday evenings with Fetch to raise money for the park.

“The funds raised will go towards the estimated $12,000 total to build the dog park fenced area, create a trail through the woods in the park, and seed the maintenance account," she said.

The other recipient, GRREAT, provides foster homes and medical care for Golden Retrievers.

Tickets are $10, and all proceeds will go to the dog park and GRREAT. The event is noon-3 p.m., and all trick-or-treaters must begin at Fetch on 305 Mill Street, to get their bag and map of participating shops.
